Last week we helped a student put together their price list for their wedding business. They had done a lot of research into competitors and into what brides want. Of course the bride to be naturally want as much as they can get for as little money as possible. The results of the research showed a demand for all the images taken at the wedding on a disc so that the couple can make up their own albums and do what they want with the images.

The suggested price was £1,000. Maybe this sounds alright on the face of it but consider the following. Even if the photographer were to get 25 weddings after all the costs involved in marketing, wedding events etc., brochures, website and much more the likely return would be about £16,000 at the very most. A nice part time business on top of another job but not a full time living. Secondly, the photography loses control of their images i.e they maybe printed by a Jessops outlet on a bad day.

So very inferior images will be doing the rounds in that photographers area as examples of their work! Better to build a reputation as one of the best wedding photographers around and charge a proper price that enables a full time living and control of your own images.
