It’s easy to fall into doing a bit of photography for friends and family. It makes you feel good when your images get lots of compliments, and you do it for little if any remuneration.
That’s OK if you are going to have an enjoyable hobby for fun, but it’s not the way to start a serious photography business.
The acid test is charging an economic price to someone you don’t know, and getting the same delighted response from them. Not just once but lots of times!
What’s an economic price?
Well, look at what your plumber, electrician, window cleaner etc. charge. Now translate that into how much you will have to charge for photography.
So, to make a living, or worthwhile return, from photography it’s about finding a way of charging for time, as well as making a mark up on any product you sell.
