Acquiring the knowledge and experience to take portraiture of exceptional quality with a perceived high commercial value has been difficult in the extreme. There has been no formal route to learn the skills required which is surprising when considering the vast size of the market. Consequently the average standard of portrait photography and the general level of service available is low. Of course the United Kingdom boasts some of the best portrait photographers in the world but they have had to overcome many obstacles.

Barrett & Coe, in partnership with Fuji, has established a structured training course in Portrait Photography. This course can lead to a much coveted Barrett & Coe Portrait Photography Certificate in a range of different Grades. The course will also ensure that successful trainees can earn immediate income, either in addition to their existing remuneration or eventually as a full time business.

This course is designed to fast track candidates to fulfilling their potential as portrait, wedding and commercial photographers and to give them in-depth knowledge of how to run and organise a profitable business. We will focus on a variety of topics, including cost control, pricing policy, budgeting and estimating, time scales, cash flow, market research, customer targeting and promotional techniques. We will explode some of the myths and help you to set up a successful business or improve your existing one.

The Social Photography Course has been designed and formulated by leading photographers with particular reference to recent work carried out by the Photo Industry Training Organisation. Brian Barrett and Andrew Coe have achieved an amazing record of

success with their unusual and special training methods. A qualification with them is an increasingly sought after accolade.

The course is intended for those with no photographic experience or knowledge, or those with limited experience who have not yet reached Licentiate level of MPA or BIPP.  The course is sufficiently flexible to allow for varying standards and abilities and

combines home-based study with one- and two-day visits to Barrett & Coe’s Norwich Headquarters.

Equipment Required

We do not advise students to buy any equipment prior to starting the course. We prefer to

give trainees the knowledge to be able to select the right equipment to fulfil their own

objectives.

FEES

The standard fees are £1,950.00 + VAT payable in advance and include:

• Option 1: Five one-day (Sunday) and one two-day (Saturday/Sunday) teaching seminars.
• Option 2: Three two-day (Friday/Saturday) and one one-day (Friday) teaching seminars.
• One years complimentary access to our web distance learning course (normal charge £150)
• 20 work components (practical tasks and home studies) with continuous evaluation giving immediate earning potential

• Registration and assessment for award of Barrett & Coe’s qualifications
• Opportunities to sit in with, or accompany, leading photographers on their assignments and visit any of our wide range of facilities at any time

• Unlimited access to our extensive reading and video library
• Help line via telephone, fax and email
  

Additional Costs

Throughout the Course, great emphasis is placed upon giving each trainee the skills

necessary to recoup the Course fees at the earliest opportunity. (Several of our Course

trainees achieved this well before the end of the Course).

Any processing and printing costs are an additional cost. We ask students to use our

designated laboratory for processing, so that we may be assured of consistent high quality

prints.
